About ITTM

Izmir Agricultural Technology Center (ITTM) is a project which aims at bringing together agriculture with technology under the leadership of the Izmir Commodity Exchange (ICE) and in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey, İzmir Institute of Technology, Yaşar University, İzmir Chamber of Commerce, Aegean Region Chamber of Industry, Aegean Exporters' Association, İzmir Chamber of Shipping and Izmir Union of Tradesmen and Craftsmen Chambers with guidance from the Izmir Development Agency.

Considering it in a holistic way as vegetative and animal production, agriculture should be carried out on the basis of the principles of ensuring continuity and security of supply and protecting the resources and environment and protecting the consumer health. To be able to satisfy the needs of increasing day by day and, in the meanwhile, to be able to maintain the profitability of production has made it necessary to use technology in an intense manner in the agricultural sector as in all other sectors.

As a result of the Industry 4.0 current, development of technology brings about radical changes in the agricultural sector after the service and industrial sectors as well. The concept emerging as a result of this new change is called Agriculture 4.0 (Smart Agriculture). Agriculture 4.0 applications make it possible to develop solutions to different requirements as well.

Need for an independent environment has risen in which technological producers and agricultural producers may come together in order to be able to identify the needs in a correct manner and to analyze the feasibility thereof. Izmir Agricultural Technology Center has been brought into being as an independent structure which is of a nature of center of attraction for agricultural technologies and enterprises and an R&D center for agricultural technologies, which will serve as a bridge for the development of agricultural technologies, identify the rules as an interface, create a common language between stakeholders and be owned by the stakeholders.

Our goal is to contribute to the maintenance of the national agriculture in accordance with changing conditions and to the development of new and effective technologies.

ITTM will operate through three different membership systems tailored to the requirements of all stakeholders. ITTM primary premises are the main service building in which offices are located and office spaces are designed with different features by the type of membership. Testing sites are agricultural fields independent of the ITTM primary premises, where pilot growing and technology development as well as practices are planned to make. Infrastructural services mean internet, electricity, water, power supply services.

In general sense, membership packages offer different solutions for different requirements.

What Is Smart Agriculture?

Agriculture is one of the issues with vial importance for each and every community which the world dwells upon most. And technology keeps being an integrated part of this important sector. Nowadays, almost all agricultural machines from tractors to croppers are equipped with sensors with the effect of Industry 4.0 and internet of things enters the agricultural sector, thus ensuring machines to be in communication with one another during the whole production process. By agricultural machinery and fields equipped with digital sensors, it is targeted to show farmers what fields should be applied with what types of fertilizers and at what quantity, weather conditions, minerals which plants need and irrigation, the condition of the soil and estimated time of harvest in detail and on real-time basis, thus making things easier growers and optimize the yield by traditional methods. Thanks to the machines which talks and are synchronized with one another, work load and costs also reduce. Agricultural production which is already efficient thanks to technology in Europe will undoubtedly be more efficient with the agricultural revolution called Agriculture 4.0, which is one of the outcomes of Industry 4.0 and once this approach has spread over the world, people will grow crops of the best quality in a fast and inexpensive manner.

It is targeted to optimize efficiency through internet of things in agriculture. As natural resources are consumed as needed, costs reduce. Likewise, all factors required for production are analyzed and simultaneously presented to the farmer by smart systems available at the farm. By this means, waste of resources is prevented and quality crops are grown. Moreover, fast decision-making mechanisms are created by the machines which are in communication and synchronously operate with one another. Grower is provided with an opportunity to be capable of managing and observing the whole farm via a tablet of mobile phone and work power is reduced, thus creating efficient, funny, quality and natural production facilities.
